Granholm went all out with her endorsement of Peters:Former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) is endorsing Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) for the Senate, the latest sign of Michigan Democrats' unity around Peters as their nominee to replace retiring Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.)."I was thrilled when Gary announced that he would be running for the U.S. Senate because he's exactly who we need standing up for us," Granholm writes in a fundraising email to Peters's supporters. "Gary's record in the U.S. House of Representatives has been about one thing and one thing only – fighting for middle class families no matter the stakes. Whether it meant taking on special interests to advocate for Michigan manufacturers or stop restrictions to women's health care, Gary has proven to us that he is the kind of progressive champion we need in Washington." - The Hill, 9/9/13
This is great news indeed! If you would like to donate or get involved with Peters' campaign, you can click here:The endorsement comes after Michigan's two U.S. senators, Democrats Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, put their support behind Peters. Levin is not seeking another term, after serving in the Senate for the past 34 years. Before winning a seat in Congress in 2008, Peters served as the commissioner of the Michigan Lottery under Granholm.
In August, former congressman and U.S. Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra endorsed former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land for Senate. Both are Republicans.
"Terri Lynn Land is a female candidate running in a gubernatorial election year and has a record of winning statewide elections by historic margins," Hoekstra said.
Land is the only Republican who has declared a campaign for Senate, although others, including U.S. Rep. Dave Camp and Holland Mayor Kurt Dykstra, considered running. - M Live, 9/9/13
