That is why it is so important that we elect Gary Peters to the U.S. Senate. Gary is currently my congressman. He represents Michigan’s 14th district, which covers parts of the greater Detroit area. Gary has been in Washington a relatively short time, but he’s already made a mark on issues that are important to America’s families. He’s helped expand access to credit for small businesses. He’s fought to protect and strengthen Medicare and Social Security. Gary was the lead co-sponsor of legislation in the House of Representatives to prevent federal student loan interest rates from doubling. We‘ve worked together to end the use of tax havens that some of our most profitable corporations and some of the wealthiest among us use to avoid paying taxes.
Gary feels strongly—as I do—that we need to bring our troops home from Afghanistan as quickly as possible over the next two years. Gary Peters will be an advocate for sensible national security policies such as those supported by Council for a Livable World.
It’s early in the campaign, but Gary’s already got a strong Republican opponent. And Republicans currently hold the offices of the Governor, the Attorney General, the Secretary of State and the majorities in both Houses of the legislature in Michigan.
