Is Reid once again dangling the football in front of those who would see the filibuster smashed... Only to pull it away at the last minute?

Reid said it was possible, but not likely, that a deal could be reached before he moves to change the rules on Tuesday. "We have to wait, see what the weekend brings. Maybe (Republicans) will be brought to reality. But the reality is, if they're not willing to be reasonable, we know where we're headed."

If this were true, what Reid says, then it's a lock. Republicans are not reality-based. Republicans are not willing to be reasonable. But Republicans are only half of the coin.

...some veteran Democrats, such as retiring Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., have long voiced strong opposition. "My position has not changed," Levin said. Democrats have a 54-seat majority.

Will Mitch McConnell be able to find one or two more like Levin (what the f*** is wrong with that man, anyway?) he can peel away with mealy-mouthed contrite promises to behave? Could it play out that Reid will have to wait until he gets his 55th Senator from Massachusetts New Jersey? Or will all collapse yet again?

I guess we will find out on Tuesday.
